Registration of patients for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan services, which had been disrupted in government hospitals, has now resumed.Deputy Minister of Health – Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni has stated that the radiopharmaceutical required for the procedure is expected to arrive in the country within the coming days, enabling full restoration of the service.A statement by the Government Radiological Technologists’ Association (GRTA) – President Chanaka Dharmawickrama also notes the PET services will resume at the Colombo National Hospital from today (May 06) and at Apeksha Hospital from May 08.
PET scan services at these hospitals were suspended from March 27 due to a shortage of Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), a radioactive tracer (radiopharmaceutical) essential for conducting PET scans.
