Late asset declarations: CIABOC sets September 30 deadline to explain delays

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has warned individuals who submitted their 2026 Annual or Post-Retirement Declarations of Assets and Liabilities after the June 30 deadline that administrative penalties may be imposed based on the number of days the submissions were delayed. However, CIABOC has given those concerned an opportunity to explain the reasons for the delay and avoid the penalty, where reasonable cause can be established.
Accordingly, individuals who submitted their declarations after June 30 and on or before August 31, 2026, have been given until September 30, 2026, to submit written reasons for the delay along with any relevant documentary evidence. The opportunity has been provided under Section 80(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023, while the applicable administrative penalties are prescribed under Section 90 of the Act.CIABOC said failure to submit reasons and supporting evidence by September 30 will be considered a failure to show reasonable cause, and the applicable administrative penalty will consequently be imposed. Those making submissions must include their National Identity Card number and telephone number. Submissions should carry the subject “Reasons for the delay” and may be sent by post to the Director, Assets and Liabilities Declaration Division, CIABOC, No. 36, Malalasekara Mawatha, Colombo 07, or by email to ald@ciaboc.gov.lk.
