The funeral of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne will be held with full police honours at the Borella Cemetery on Monday, 20 July, Police Media Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler said.Former IGP Wickramaratne died from a gunshot wound on 17 July while at his residence on Parakrama Mawatha, Thalahena, Malabe.
A senior police officer had earlier stated that, under police protocol, no police officer is entitled to police honours in cases of death by suicide.The Police Media Spokesman said that two police investigation teams are probing the circumstances surrounding Mr Wickramaratne’s death, adding that the final post-mortem report has not yet been received.
