SLVTA marks 31 years with hospital tech support program.

A technical support Shramadana programme was successfully conducted today (Aug. 17) at 33 selected hospitals across the country as part of the 31st anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority (SLVTA), in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka national program.
The main program was held at Castle Street Women’s Hospital in Colombo under the patronage of Deputy Minister Vocational Education Nalin Hewage.
The program was carried out with the active participation and voluntary contribution of Generation Z and vocational training students. It focused on technical repairs and maintenance within hospital premises, including electrical and plumbing systems, infrastructure improvements and environmental cleaning. A key feature of the initiative was that it went beyond a conventional Shramadana campaign by enabling young people to apply their practical knowledge and skills in electronics, electrical work, plumbing, building maintenance, mechanical work and other technical fields to strengthen the country’s public healthcare system.
The program was also conducted under the Clean Sri Lanka concept, highlighting the commitment of the younger generation to environmental cleanliness, positive attitudinal change, the protection of public property and sustainable national development. It further demonstrated the role of young people in nation-building not merely as “opportunity seekers”, but as “opportunity creators”.
