State officials, including ministry secretaries and other executive-grade public servants, are reportedly facing significant difficulties as fuel allowances have not been revised in line with the continuous increase in fuel prices.

Executive-grade officers in the public service are entitled to a specified monthly fuel allowance, which is paid based on prevailing fuel prices.However, a circular issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance on 2 April instructed that the allowance should continue to be paid based on fuel prices that prevailed on 1 March.The circular further stated that the Cabinet had decided to limit fuel allowances granted to ministers, deputy ministers, Members of Parliament, public officials and other categories of recipients, taking into account fuel rationing measures and the declaration of Wednesdays as a public holiday.
