A severed human head has been discovered washed ashore on the beach behind a leading tourist hotel along the Moragalla beachfront in Aluthgama.

The discovery was made during investigations carried out following a telephone call received by the Aluthgama Police this morning (23).

The remains have been identified as those of a male, although no information regarding his identity has yet been revealed.

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Aluthgama Police.
