Former Weligama PS chairman remanded over Rs. 40 mn loss

Colombo, May 8 (Daily Mirror) – Former SLPP Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Daya Pushpa Kumara Battage has been remanded by Colombo Additional Magistrate Liyan Werasawithana until May 19 over allegations of causing a loss exceeding Rs. 40 million to the State.
According to the Bribery Commission, Battage was arrested after investigations into four corruption-related allegations.
Officials informed court that the suspect, a resident of Kamburugamuwa and a political activist, had allegedly caused the financial loss while serving as a government official and had also obtained personal benefits through the alleged acts.
