SLC introduces random alcohol and drug tests for players

– Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has introduced random alcohol and drug testing for national players while tightening fitness and dietary monitoring, Sri Lanka Cricket Transformation Committee member Sidath Wettimuny said.Speaking at a press conference, he said players now undergo weekly skinfold measurements to monitor body fat levels and receive individual fitness programs. He identified nutrition as a major concern, saying players were not following the diets required for professional cricket.
To address this, SLC has appointed a dietician to monitor players’ meals in Sri Lanka and during overseas tours, with dietary requirements also communicated directly to team hotels.Wettimuny said that random alcohol and drug tests had been introduced to improve discipline and ensure players remained focused on the game.He said discussions with players also covered smoking, alcohol consumption, nutrition and professional conduct.
