Colombo, May 7 (Daily Mirror) – B.W. Premachandra, a member of the National People’s Power (NPP) representing the Kurunegala Municipal Council, has resigned from his position, citing frustration over alleged corruption, administrative failures, and poor governance within the council.
The resignation was confirmed by Kurunegala Mayor Ananda Sahabandu, who stated that the official resignation letter was received yesterday. Premachandra was considered a key political figure within the council, having secured the highest number of preferential votes from the Gangoda Division (No. 01) at the time of his election.
In his resignation letter, Premachandra outlined several concerns regarding the functioning of the municipal body. He alleged that unauthorized trade activities and illegal constructions were continuing within the city limits without proper enforcement action. He also raised issues over irregularities in fuel usage and the payment of unauthorized overtime allowances.
