Money printing exceeds Rs. 2 trillion – CHR

The broad aggregate money supply (money printing) of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has exceeded Rs. 2.1 trillion, the Center for Human Rights & Research (CHR) states.
As a result, the volume of currency in circulation has increased by Rs. 303,956 million over the past 17 months alone, the organisation points out.
Issuing a statement under the letterhead of the CHR, its Executive Director, Rajith Keerthi Tennakoon, revealed this today (24).
The statement notes that this was determined through an analysis of data published in the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s Weekly Economic Indicators (28 March 2025 and 22 May 2026) According to the statement, the broad money supply stood at Rs. 14,439.1
