Voters who distanced themselves from SLPP are now returning, says Namal
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa said people who had distanced themselves from the party during previous elections were now returning to its camp due to growing dissatisfaction with the government.
Speaking at a divisional meeting in Jandure, Angunakolapelessa, Hambantota, Rajapaksa said the SLPP had been visiting villages across the country to reconnect with the people.“We have now gone from village to village as a party to many districts in Sri Lanka. Today we see that many people who distanced themselves from us in the past elections are joining hands with our camp once again,” he said.According to Rajapaksa, the development reflected both renewed confidence in the SLPP and declining trust in the present government.“On the one hand, there is trust in us, and on the other hand, there is distrust in the government,” he said.
He claimed that the government had failed to fulfil the expectations it created among the public, particularly young people, farmers and other sections of society.“Normally, it takes time for people to get tired of a government. But since the day this government came to power, the people have been tired of it,” Rajapaksa said.
He urged the government to stop deceiving the public and instead address the issues faced by citizens.
