A tense situation erupted at the Magazine Prison in Borella tonight (06), prompting authorities to tighten security in and around the facility.The unrest began at approximately 10:20 PM when a group of inmates housed in ‘E’ Ward suddenly forced their way out of the ward and started behaving in a riotous and disorderly manner.

According to reports, the clash and subsequent unrest were triggered by a dispute related to illicit drugs among the inmates.To bring the situation under control, authorities immediately deployed teams from the Sri Lanka Police, the Police Riot Control Unit, and the Special Task Force (STF) to the location to reinforce security.Police said that the unrest has now bee brought under control, and security within the prison premises has been restored and secured.
