Soil slippage at Kadigamuwa delays Upcountry trains again

– Trains operating on the Upcountry railway line were delayed again today due to soil slippage near Kadigamuwa railway station following continued rainfall, the Railways Department said. The department said soil from an embankment near the station had washed onto the railway tracks both this morning and this evening, disrupting train services.
Trains travelling from Colombo Fort towards Gampola and Peradeniya were delayed at Rambukkana railway station, while the evening train from Gampola to Colombo Fort was also affected. As soil slippage at the location has reportedly been occurring daily, concerns have been raised over whether the Railways Department has implemented a permanent solution to address the recurring problem.
