The National Dengue Control Unit has announced that the total number of dengue cases reported across the island so far in 2026 has increased to 96,040.According to the latest reports issued by the unit, 10,155 dengue cases were identified during the month of August alone.The number of deaths caused by dengue has risen to 72 so far this year.

At the provincial level, the highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the Western Province, with 50,760 cases.In addition, 13,931 cases have been reported from the Southern Province, 8,788 from the Central Province, and 7,910 from the Sabaragamuwa Province.At district level, the highest number of cases has been reported from the Gampaha District, with 20,444 cases.In addition, 19,008 cases have been reported from the Colombo District, 7,043 from the Kandy District, 6,181 from the Kalutara District, and 6,154 from the Matara District.
