Narine shuts the door on request to return for World Cup
Former West Indies player Sunil Narine has said that he will not play for West Indies in this year’s T20 World Cup series.
Narine, who is playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders, is displaying great skills and performances in this year’s IPL.
In particular, he scored his first T20 century in the match against Rajasthan Royals. Apart from that, he is also doing well with the ball and putting pressure on the opposing batsmen.
Due to this, expectations have increased that Sunil Narine will be included in the West Indies squad for this year’s T20 World Cup series.
Meanwhile, Sunil Narine, who has already shone with the bat and ball in the IPL series this time, has been requested by the West Indies captain Rovman Powell to play in the T20 World Cup series to be held in June.
It was reported that Narine is likely to come out of retirement and play for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup.
In this situation, Narine has definitely said that he will not play for the West Indies team in the upcoming T20 World Cup series.
Speaking about this, he said: ‘I received invitations to play for the West Indies team in the T20 World Cup series to be held this year. Some say I should come back from retirement and play the T20 World Cup. But I have already closed that door. I will continue to support West Indies team players.
“We wish them the best of luck in winning the World Cup, guys who have worked hard over the last few months to show our wonderful fans that they are capable of winning another title”.
Narine, who emerged as West Indies’ best spinner, has played six Tests, 65 ODIs and 51 T20 matches, scoring 550 runs and taking 165 wickets.
He also played 169 matches in the IPL series and collected 172 wickets and 1,332 runs. It is noteworthy that earlier he announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2023.
