Olympic Medalist Susanthika also affected by cricket restructuring cuts

Olympic medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe has reportedly lost her position as a consultant to Sri Lanka women’s cricket.
Her employment is said to have been terminated following a decision taken last week by the restructuring committee chaired by Iran Wickramaratne, which was appointed by the Minister of Sports. The committee decided to discontinue the services of a large number of individuals who had allegedly been receiving salaries from Sri Lanka Cricket without a clear operational necessity.
According to sources familiar with the committee’s work, the move is expected to result in substantial cost savings for the cricket administration. Those affected reportedly include individuals employed as consultants and coordinators. In addition, there are said to be a number of people who had been appointed through district and provincial associations and were receiving monthly allowances equivalent to salaries. It is also reported that many of these individuals had been provided with insurance coverage.
However, the loss of employment suffered by Susanthika has been viewed by many as particularly unfortunate.
