Employees attached to nearly 80 of the 107 depots operated by the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) have reportedly not received their salaries for the previous month, ‘Aruna’ reports, citing internal sources.SLTB employees state that drivers, conductors, and mechanics are among those who are yet unpaid.A senior official of the board had reportedly said the situation has arisen due to rising fuel costs, declining depot revenue and increasing operational expenditure.According to the official, some depots in the Western Province incur daily fuel costs of around Rs. 2.6 million, while their daily income remains below Rs. 01 million.The official further noted that salaries for SLTB drivers, conductors, and mechanics are usually paid on the 08th of every month, while the remainder of the staff receive salaries on the 26th. However, many depots have reportedly been unable to pay drivers, conductors, and mechanics since June 08th.
