U-19 Women’s cricket coach suspended
According to internal sources within Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr Mahesh Weerasinghe, who served as the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Under-19 Women’s Cricket Team, has been removed from that position with immediate effect and suspended from his coaching duties with Sri Lanka Cricket. The sources further state that the decision was taken in response to complaints alleging that Mr Weerasinghe had subjected players in the Sri Lanka Under-19 Women’s Cricket Team to undue pressure. An investigation into his conduct is also expected to be carried out.
It is reported that, although the Sri Lanka Under-19 Women’s Cricket Team secured victory in a practice match against the Sri Lanka Navy Women’s Cricket Team yesterday (10 June), the coach allegedly reprimanded the players severely afterwards. During the incident, team captain Chamudi Prabodha is said to have become distressed and overwhelmed by the pressure, resulting in her being admitted to hospital. It is further reported that, following a complaint regarding the matter, the Women’s Cricket Committee convened and subsequently reached this decision.Reports indicate that complaints had previously been received alleging that Mr Weerasinghe had placed excessive pressure on players.
