Indictments have been filed before the Colombo High Court against former State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa and two others on corruption charges over alleged misuse of official influence to obtain compensation payments.The action was initiated by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).Sepalika Saman Kumari and Keerthi Bandara Kotagama have also been named as the others accused.The indictment contains 10 charges, with the prosecution listing 30 witnesses and 38 documents as evidence materials.

According to the allegations, the accused are said to have pressured officials attached to the Office for Reparations to approve compensation worth Rs. 8.85 million for properties damaged during the May 9, 2022 protests. The properties, including a building allegedly constructed on land belonging to the Mahaweli Authority in the Sevanagala–Kiriibbanwewa area, had earlier been rejected for compensation.CIABOC alleges that despite the prior rejection, official influence was used to secure the payments, which it claims amounts to corruption and aiding and abetting corruption.
