Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya expressed her gratitude for the support UNICEF has provided to Sri Lanka in promoting children’s rights and well-being. She also commended UNICEF for its prompt relief and recovery assistance in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah.

Discussions focused on further strengthening legal protections for children, preventing all forms of violence against children, and addressing the ongoing challenges of child malnutrition.The Prime Minister noted that the discussion provided a valuable opportunity to further strengthen cooperation between the two parties. She emphasized that although Sri Lanka possesses a strong policy and legal framework, greater attention must be paid to the effective implementation and enforcement of these policies and laws in order to address the challenges faced by children and other vulnerable groups.
